Do you have a vintage or late model Chevrolet Blazer? Do you struggle with the fact that the bench seat leaves you no storage space other than an out of reach glove compartment? Or are just looking for a place to put your coffee, juice, water bottle or fast food fountain drink?
The Chevy Blazer was not a vehicle created for its comfort creating amenities. In fact, the first model of the Blazer came with four-wheel drive standard, and can be often seen with no top, roll cage exposed, similar to a Jeep Wrangler. These removable tops, or “Full convertibles” were only made from 1975 to 1976. Afterward GM moved to a safer the safer half-cab style. This design was also less disposed to develop leaks.
These trucks are made for off-road dirt trails rather than for sipping coffee on the high way. They are the smallest member of GM’s full size truck line up, first introduced in 1969 as a shorter version of the Suburban. It was made to compete with the International Harvest Scout, a car company that no longer exists, and the Ford Bronco. The next year in 1970 a two-wheel drive option was offered and this first generation had four available engine choices.
Between 1983 and 1987, these trucks were even used as military vehicles! These models are very rare, and known to be strongly desired by off-road collectors.
What makes these vintage Blazers special, aside from their looks, is their overall design. At the time of their introduction, there were only full sized trucks on the market for the most part. This shorter wheel-base and bed length allowed for a much cheaper production cost and more space on the interior. But at the time a center console and cup holders were not thought to be important enough to include in this extra space.
The solution to these problems are simple and inexpensive with these products. And for collectors out there, these upgrades are sure to come in a color to match the interior or exterior of your beloved Blazer.
