Product Description

Deluxe Dome Light Dimmer
(Part#13005 Shown a Pic.)
Here at "Vintage Car Radio" we pride ourselves in providing valued customers with top of the line products, including our deluxe model dome light dimmer. It is a handy gadget which creates illumination similar to movie theater lighting. With a simple turn of the knob, you've the ability to control its lighting to the dimness or brightness you'd prefer. The dome switch is controlled by the switched power line and door locking mechanisms. If your door is ajar or fully opened the dome light is activated, starting out on the lowest setting and eventually reaching its highest lighting potential. Once the door has been shut the dome light stays on for a total of thirty seconds before shutting off. And while the car is running the light begins to slowly fade off, but if the keys are in your ignition and the vehicle isn't turned on, they will remain on for thirty seconds once the door has been closed. Our deluxe model dome light dimmer is in total control of your dome light as well. Allowing Vintage Car Radio to have the ability to include a special feature enabling it to slowly fade on.
In less than 2 seconds it magically comes on after warming up, instead of turning on immediately and blinding you. To prevent your car battery from dying out, the dome light automatically turns off after 10 seconds if the door of your vehicle is left ajar. Depending on how you wish for the dome light to be activated, we have two different styles to choose from. The first one has a part number of 13005 and is designed to go in cars with a door switch that have a twelve volt connection. Such as old modeled vehicles like 1960's General Motor cars. When unsure what type you are going to need, then try using a voltmeter to check the voltage of dome light when in the off position. If it indicates power voltage to the battery, then your door switch is supplying power through the ground connector. Therefore, you'll need the deluxe dome light dimmer with part number 13005. However, if it is showing an OV indication, then your door switch is supplied through the 12 volt connection and would require our 13007 part model.
The dimmer with part number 13005 is equipped to fit most vehicles, includingGM from the 50's, 60's, and 70's. Mopar through '73. Classic 12v VW Beetles and Vans.

Deluxe Model Dome Light Dimmers:

Controls a vehicle's dome light to add a theater lighting effect. Gradually turns the dome light on and fades the dome light off.
Monitors the door switches and switched power line to control the dome light. When a door is opened, the dome light gradually brightens to full intensity. When a door is closed, the dome light remains on for up to 30 seconds then fades off.
Monitors the switched power line to refine the experience. If the key is off, the dome light is held on for 30 seconds. If the key is on, the dome light fades off as soon as the door is closed. When the key is switched off, the dome light automatically turns on for 30 seconds.
The standard Dome Light Dimmer is a nice addition to any car, but it has some limitations. For one, it has the same delay if the engine is on or off. The deluxe unit overcomes the limitations of the standard model and builds on its features.
The Deluxe Dome Light Dimmer monitors switched power. If power is off, the dome light is kept on for 30 seconds after a door is shut. If the key is turned on, there is no delay - the dome light immediately fades off.
The Deluxe Dome Light Dimmer also takes full control of the dome light. This allows us to add a “fade on” feature. Instead of the light instantly turning on, it “warms up” from off to on in about a second. Also, if someone should inadvertently leave a door ajar, the dome light will automatically turn off after 10 minutes to conserve battery power.
Two styles are available, depending on how the dome light is activated. Part number 13005 is for vehicles where the door switch supplies a ground connection (most older cars including GMs from the ‘60s). Part number 13007 is for vehicles  where the door switch supplies a 12v connection (many newer cars with remote entry and ‘60s era Mustangs). If you are not sure which one you need, use a voltmeter to test the voltage on the dome light when the dome light is off. If the voltmeter shows battery voltage, then the door switch supplies the ground connection (so you need pn 13005). If, instead, the voltmeter shows 0V, the door switch supplies the 12v connection (so you need pn 13007).
