Antique Automobile Radio Foot Control
The Antique Automobile Radio Foot Control is a unique accessory designed to provide convenience and hands-free operation for vintage car radios. Installed on the floorboard of classic automobiles, this foot-controlled device allows drivers to adjust volume, change radio stations, or switch between different audio sources without taking their hands off the steering wheel or eyes off the road.
In the era when these radios were first introduced, manual dials and knobs were the primary means of controlling radio functions. However, the introduction of foot controls offered a revolutionary way to interact with the radio while driving, enhancing safety and convenience for motorists.
The foot control typically consists of a durable pedal mechanism connected to the radio unit via a series of cables or electrical wires. Pressing the pedal activates specific functions, such as volume adjustment or station tuning, depending on the design and configuration of the foot control system.
One of the key advantages of the Antique Automobile Radio Foot Control is its ergonomic design, which allows for intuitive and effortless operation. By using the driver's foot to control radio functions, the foot control eliminates the need to reach for knobs or buttons on the dashboard, reducing distractions and promoting safer driving practices.
Furthermore, the foot control offers greater flexibility and freedom of movement compared to traditional manual controls. Drivers can adjust radio settings with precision and accuracy while keeping both hands firmly on the steering wheel, maintaining better control of the vehicle in various driving conditions.
The Antique Automobile Radio Foot Control is compatible with a wide range of vintage car radios, making it a popular aftermarket accessory for classic car enthusiasts. Whether installed during a restoration project or added as an upgrade to an existing radio system, the foot control enhances the nostalgic driving experience while preserving the authenticity and charm of vintage automobiles.
Overall, the Antique Automobile Radio Foot Control is a valuable addition to any classic car audio setup, offering convenience, safety, and a touch of retro sophistication for drivers who appreciate the timeless appeal of vintage automobiles.
Foot controls were popular in the '40s 50's and '60s. Early versions advanced the tuner to the next preset station when stepped on. When signal seeking radios were invented in 1947 they would advance to the next station with sufficient signal strength (like a Wonderbar). This allowed the driver to change stations without taking his hands off the wheel or his eyes off the road. Even in those days there was a concern about distracted drivers. Foot controls were factory options for most U.S. car makers and radios supplied by Bendix, Delco, Motorola, Philco and Zenith. All offered foot control options on at least some of their radios. Our foot controls are made from .024” Galvaneal with a black powder coat finish for high rust resistance. They plug into a jack that is on the back of every radio we make beginning with serial number B103 0427, B106 662 or B106 0830 and every radio built after January 1 2019. The foot control makes every radio a signal seeker!
