Custom Autosound continues to refine the classic car radio with the USA-630. Its big, OEM-style buttons look great in an older dash. Despite its vintage look, it has modern features such as an iPod dock. You can use the radio's controls to browse your iPod's library by artist, song, album or playlist, so the iPod can stay hidden in the glove box or center console. You can also play MP3 or WMA files from a USB flash drive through the USB input on the back. With a thumb drive, an iPod or RDS radio, the alphanumeric display shows song titles, artist names and album names. With the optional BluKit, you can stream music wirelessly from a Bluetooth phone or device, and the radio's track-up button skips ahead on your phone. When you use the radio for a hands-free call, the music mutes automatically. With 300 watts of peak power, you shouldn't need an amplifier, but four pre-out jacks on the back are there if you want one. A line-in jack on the back also lets you plug in an iPod or portable CD player.

Suggested order for a 1971-1979 VW Bug

- Connect the antenna plug and the blue power-antenna lead if your car has a power antenna.
- Wire all four speakers, matching polarity.
- If using an amplifier, run RCA cables from the front/rear (and sub on USA-740/USA-850) pre-outs.
- Reconnect the battery and test radio, speakers, and charging system voltage.
Tech tips for 1971-1979 VW Bug
- This radio is sold for the factory VW Bug opening used in 1971-1979 models—do not cut a modern DIN rectangle if you want a stock look.
- A poor ground is the most common cause of whine or weak audio; scrape paint at the ground point and use a star washer.
- If AM reception is weak, check the antenna mast, cable continuity, and that the antenna plug is fully seated.
- Vintage Car Radio does not install radios. If you are not comfortable with 12V wiring, use a qualified installer.
