Not every Tri-Five owner wants the aviation look of a lift latch. This bench seat kit for 1955-1957 Chevrolets uses the all-metal push button buckle with a starburst face, a style that became the common universal belt look in the following decade. Both outboard bench riders are covered, and mounting bolts come with it.
Vehicle Fit
Seatbelt Planet lists this kit across the 1955, 1956 and 1957 passenger cars, including the Bel Air and Nomad. It is meant for the factory front bench, where the two outboard riders get a belt each. A center belt is not part of the set, so add one separately if a third person rides up front.
Choosing a Color
You can choose from fifty-two webbing shades, with a surcharge on thirteen premium options. Tri-Five interiors were famous for bold two-tone patterns in turquoise, red, ivory, black and silver, and the list has close matches for most of them. Plastic trim on select colors is matched to the strap.
Why Upgrade?
Belts were only a dealer accessory in 1955 and 1956, so a large share of these cars either never had them or still carry belts installed decades ago. Old aftermarket belts are often made from webbing that has gone stiff and faded. A new set with sturdy push button buckles gives you dependable protection for cruise nights and long drives.
Maintenance
Wipe the starburst buckle face with a dry, soft cloth to keep it shiny, and do not use abrasive polish on it. Clean the webbing with mild soap and lukewarm water, rinse lightly, and let it air dry. Keep the straps off the floor when the doors close, since the edges can catch on the sill plates.
About the Chevrolet Tri-Five Bench
Chevrolet's 1955 model introduced the small-block V8 and a crisp new body, the 1956 got a bolder front end, and the 1957 brought its famous fins. Together these years produced some of the most collected American cars ever, from plain 150 sedans to fuel-injected Bel Air hardtops.
Pre-Install Checklist
Lift the carpet behind the bench and look for solid metal where each anchor will go. Many Tri-Fives have replacement floor pans, and those need proper reinforcement plates at the anchor points. If you are unsure, a local body shop can confirm the floor is strong enough.
Good to Know
If you prefer the vintage aviation style instead, a lift latch version of this bench kit is listed separately with a choice of chrome or black wrinkle finish.
Push button buckles are also a little easier for passengers who are not familiar with lift latch belts. A simple press releases the latch plate, which can make the car more comfortable for friends and family who ride along at shows.
Many owners order the matching rear belt in the same color so the cabin is consistent from front to back.
