    • These seat belts are sold for Driver or Passenger seats for one person
The Seatbelt Planet 1972-1973 Mercury Comet Front Bench Seat Belt, sold by Vintage Car Radio, is a practical single-position upgrade that strengthens the front seating area of these compact, versatile classics without unnecessary complexity.

The 1972-1973 Mercury Comet occupied a smart middle ground in the Ford lineup. Built on the Maverick platform but dressed with Mercury styling and appointments, it offered an affordable, roomy compact that appealed to budget-conscious buyers who still wanted a bit of refinement.

The front bench seat was one of its most useful features. Wide enough for three adults to sit across in reasonable comfort, it turned the Comet into a genuine small family car capable of daily duties, short trips, and occasional longer drives. That practical bench gave the Comet real versatility in an era when many compact cars focused more on two-passenger sportiness.

However, the original restraint systems were basic and have not held up well. Many examples now have faded, frayed, or missing front belts, leaving the bench less usable and less safe than it should be.

This Seatbelt Planet product is a dedicated front bench seat belt designed specifically for the 1972-1973 Mercury Comet. It is a 3-point lap-and-shoulder belt that provides significantly better protection than the original equipment. The webbing is high-strength and fade-resistant, available in multiple colors and textures that match or complement original vinyl and cloth interiors.

The buckle is a solid all-metal push-button design with chrome plating, delivering a crisp, positive click and easy release that feels appropriate for the era.

The hardware is kept clean and functional. Chrome-plated fittings and anchors are designed to integrate naturally with the Comet’s straightforward interior, so the belt looks purposeful rather than like an obvious modern addition. Because this is a single-position kit, it gives owners the flexibility to replace just the driver’s side, the passenger side, or to match an existing belt during a phased restoration.

Installation is straightforward and owner-friendly. The kit includes all necessary mounting hardware and is engineered to work with the existing floor points in most cases. Minimal modification is typically required. The adjustable strap provides a secure, comfortable fit for different body sizes while preserving the bench’s wide, accommodating character.

Seatbelt Planet builds these belts to exceed FMVSS 209 and 302 standards, ensuring good tensile strength, durability, and flame resistance. For Comet owners who still use their cars regularly — whether for daily driving, weekend errands, or short family trips — this upgrade makes the front bench far more reassuring and practical.

Vintage Car Radio stocks this Seatbelt Planet product with reliable shipping and support, making the targeted refresh easy to complete.

This Seatbelt Planet 1972-1973 Mercury Comet Front Bench Seat Belt is a smart, high-value solution that respects the car’s compact, practical heritage. It replaces outdated or missing originals with modern three-point protection, allowing the front bench to be used with greater confidence. Order from Vintage Car Radio today and bring one more piece of your classic Mercury Comet up to a safer, more usable standard.
