Cougar XR-7s from the mid and late seventies often came with a front bench, which leaves room for a third rider in the middle. Seatbelt Planet's front center belt gives that position a non-retractable two-point lap belt with a steel press-button latch, and it ships with hardware.
Fitment Notes
Seatbelt Planet lists it for the front center seating position of 1974-1979 Mercury Cougar XR-7 models.
Available Colors
Pick from 52 colors, 13 premium. Matching the outboard belts keeps the bench looking consistent.
Why New Belts Matter
Center belts were often removed or tucked under the cushion and forgotten. Fresh webbing puts the Cougar's middle spot back in service.
Keeping Them Like New
Rest both pieces on the XR-7 bench and sponge them clean now and then.
About the 1974-1979 Mercury Cougar XR-7
Mercury moved the Cougar upmarket in the seventies, turning the XR-7 into a personal luxury coupe with opera windows and formal styling. The 1977-1979 cars were among Mercury's best sellers.
Before You Install
Raise the front seat cushion and confirm the two center anchor holes are present and clean.
Good to Know
One center belt per order.
Use the same shade as the outboard belts for a uniform bench.
A center belt is a small part that completes the interior.
Seatbelt Planet sews it after purchase.
Personal luxury coupes like this are growing in popularity with collectors.
Center belts are easy to overlook at restoration time, but judges notice when one is missing.
The 1974-1976 Cougar XR-7 shared its basic structure with Ford's Gran Torino Elite, while the 1977-1979 cars moved to the platform used by the LTD II. Both generations offered bench seating on many cars, which is where this center belt comes in.
A middle belt is easy to overlook during a restoration, but it completes a six-passenger setup and gives anyone sitting in the center a proper restraint.
This XR-7 middle strap meets FMVSS 209 and 302 per its maker, and it is stitched once your color is chosen.
Before ordering, slide the front seat forward or lift the cushion and confirm that the two center anchor holes are present and in solid metal.
Matching the outboard XR-7 belts in color gives the bench a consistent, factory-like appearance.
Personal luxury coupes from this era are drawing more collector attention every year, and complete belts are a detail that helps one present well.
If you need outboard Cougar XR-7 belts as well, those are listed separately for the same years.
Mercury trimmed these coupes with plush velour or vinyl benches, so pick a strap shade that sits well against that upholstery and the door panel inserts.
The XR-7 badge marked the top Cougar.
A complete bench honors this classic car's luxury roots.
