Product Description
Aurora Design FMR-3.2 AM/FM Receiver: Modern Digital Radio Inside Your Original Classic Radio
The FMR-3.2 is Aurora Design's current AM/FM receiver and the follow-on to the FMR-2 and FMR-3.0 generations. Instead of replacing your dash radio with an imported look-alike, the FMR-3.2 replaces the worn electronics inside your original radio with modern digital electronics, so the face, knobs and pushbuttons stay exactly as the factory built them. It adapts to just about any radio from the 1930s through the 1980s and works with inductive, capacitive and potentiometer tuning.
What's New in the FMR-3.2
- Worldwide digital radio support: with the optional FMR-DRH1 module the FMR-3.2 receives licensed HD Radio™ Technology, and with the FMR-DRD1 it receives DAB/DAB+ using Aurora Design's patented interface.
- Audio equalizer: three-band bass/mid/treble with +/-10dB adjustment, loudness adjustable from 0 to 15dB, subwoofer gain of +/-10dB and crossover points of 55, 85, 120 or 160Hz.
- LW and SW bands: longwave on radios set up for worldwide use and shortwave (49M and 41M) on North American radios, so factory radios with those bands work again.
- Voice Assist HD: the radio speaks basic operations in clear English, such as "Scanning for Stations" or "Right Front Speaker shorted to ground," instead of beep codes.
Power and Sound
The digitally controlled Class SB amplifier delivers up to 4 x 45W into 4-ohm speakers or 2 x 75W into 2-ohm speakers at 14.4V, while dissipating up to 66% less power than a standard Class AB design at normal listening levels. It senses which speakers are connected and enables or disables balance and fader to match. A three-speaker setup can send stereo to two rear speakers and mono to one front speaker. Five pop-free line outputs (4.1, with a subwoofer channel) let you add external amplifiers, and a differential auxiliary input with selectable VOX control helps eliminate ground loop noise.
Built to OEM Standards
Aurora Design built the FMR-3.2 to meet automotive OEM and SAE specifications, including SAE J1113-42. It is protected against reverse battery, double-battery jump starts, load dump and shorted speaker lines, and it is rated to operate from -40°C to +65°C. Noise blankers suppress ignition, generator and alternator noise, and automatic bandwidth control adjusts continuously for the best reception. User settings are kept in nonvolatile memory, so no constant battery lead is needed.
Signal Seeking and Scan
Wonderbar®, Town & Country and Electro-Touch signal-seeking radios are fully supported, including sensitivity controls and Delco electric pushbutton tuning. Press Seek once to find the next station, or twice to scan with an 8-second pause on each. On manually tuned radios, twist the tuning knob twice to the right to start scanning. Tube Emulation Mode recreates the warm-up and cool-down of an original tube set for concours-correct operation.
