Product Description
Aurora Design FMC-2 FM Tuner: Add FM and Auxiliary Input to Your Original AM Radio
The FMC-2 is Aurora Design's FM conversion board for original AM car radios and the follow-on to the popular FMC-1. Rather than replacing the radio's electronics, the FMC-2 adds FM reception and an auxiliary input for MP3 players, satellite radio and similar devices, and it can be removed later without a trace. This listing was previously titled FMC-3.2, but Aurora Design sells this tuner as the FMC-2.
Improvements Over the FMC-1
- Double the processing power
- Selectable auxiliary input trigger: VOX, tune to the low end of the dial, or power-switch cycling
- Elimination of false power-cycle trips
- Twice the output voltage for compatibility with early tube radios
- Lower antenna shunt capacitance
Preserves Originality and Value
The FMC-2 measures only 1.0" x 1.25" x 0.15", small enough to mount entirely in the head of a 1953-1959 Ford F100 radio. Only one wire inside the radio, the antenna lead, needs to be cut, and all other connections are simply tacked in place. Original wiring stays intact, and no changes to the vehicle are required. Because it can be removed later, the originality and value of your AM radio are preserved. Aurora Design says it can also replace a failed FM front end in an original 1960s factory AM/FM radio.
One Board for Every Installation
The FMC-2 is fully self-contained, with no external power supply or extra components. The same board works on 6-volt or 12-volt systems with selectable positive or negative ground, so vintage owners don't have to hunt for a special version. It supports worldwide FM with 200 or 100kHz channel spacing and 75 or 50µs de-emphasis, plus the Japanese FM band of 76.0-95.0 MHz.
Feels Like an Original FM Radio
Advanced digital electronics and software recreate the feel of an original analog automotive FM radio. The quartz-locked design gives extremely stable tuning, and the microprocessor adjusts its settings 1,333 times per second. Settings are kept in nonvolatile memory, so no constant battery lead is needed. In FM or AUX mode, the FMC-2 disables the AM section for zero cross-interference, and its power detection prevents false mode switching.
Signal-Seeking Radio Support
Wonderbar® and Town & Country signal-seeking radios are fully supported, including selectable sensitivity and Delco® electric pushbutton tuning. Seek tracking runs as fast as 30ms per channel.
