The 1970-74 Chevy Caprice was Chevrolet's top full-size car, with a wide dash and a comfortable cabin. This Custom Autosound Slidebar radio is the 1970-1974 Caprice version. At a glance it looks like a period radio, but slide the bar to the right and a full digital display appears with modern features behind it.
How the Slidebar Works
The face carries a working slide bar like an original dial pointer. Slide it right and the digital display is revealed. Slide it back and the dash looks original again. This lets you keep the look of the Caprice without hiding modern features in the glove box.

Building the System
The Caprice has room for more than the original dash speaker. A front dual voice coil speaker carries both stereo channels from the dash, and a rear 6x9 pair, Custom Autosound or upgraded Pioneer, completes the system. The four pre-outs and subwoofer output make it easy to add an amplifier later.
Radio Data System
The RDS tuner shows station names and, where broadcast, song and artist, so you know what is playing. With 15 FM and 10 AM presets you can store all your favorite stations.
Electrical Requirements
Custom Autosound radios are built for 12-volt negative ground systems, which the 1970-74 Caprice uses from the factory. If your car has been modified, check the system before installing.
Installation
The Slidebar is made to fit the factory radio opening without cutting the dash. Most owners can install it with basic tools. Disconnect the battery, check the wiring and test before you put the dash back together.
