The first Porsche 911 Turbo, the type 930, turned the air-cooled coupe into a supercar with its wide rear fenders, whale-tail spoiler and turbocharged flat-six. Seatbelt Planet's kit for 1975-1977 Turbos gives both front bucket seats a fresh reel-type three-point belt closed by an end-release buckle, so the cockpit of this landmark car can be as sharp as its performance.
Vehicle Fit
Fitment, per Seatbelt Planet: both front seats in 1975-1977 Porsche 911 Turbo (930) coupes.
Choosing a Color
The Turbo webbing comes in 52 shades, 13 of them premium. Black is the usual choice, but early Turbos were trimmed in some bold leathers and tartans, and a matching shade can lift the whole cabin.
Why Upgrade?
Early Turbos are now valuable collector cars, and worn, faded belts stand out in an otherwise well-kept interior. New belts with smooth retractors also make the car more pleasant to drive, which is the point of owning one.
Maintenance
Sponge the Turbo's straps with lukewarm, lightly soaped water, let it dry fully before it winds back onto the reel, and keep the end release buckles free of dust and crumbs.
About the Early Porsche 930 Turbo
Porsche introduced the 930 at the 1974 Paris show and began selling it for 1975. Its 3.0-liter turbocharged engine and four-speed gearbox gave it startling pace for the era, and US buyers received it from the 1976 model year. Today the early cars are among the most desirable air-cooled Porsches.
Pre-Install Checklist
Look over the floor anchors, the tunnel buckle mounts and the upper pillar mounts, and clean the threads so new bolts start by hand.
Good to Know
Two belts per kit.
Because the Turbo's cabin is shared with the standard 911, many owners compare it with narrow-body cars. Fresh belts in a period-appropriate shade help a Turbo interior look as special as the bodywork.
Seatbelt Planet builds the belts to order after you choose your color, so take your time comparing the swatches with your seats and carpet.
Retracting belts keep the shoulder straps close to the pillars when the doors open, which helps protect the webbing from being caught in the latch.
End release buckles are easy to work with one hand, and they suit a car that is driven often rather than kept only for display.
US-market Turbos began with the 1976 model year, while Seatbelt Planet lists the kit from 1975, so owners of European cars are covered too.
