Why Owners Seek Specific Belts
Generic belts are available everywhere, but they are not always the right length or style for a particular seat. A belt that is too long leaves excess webbing, and one that is too short can be uncomfortable or hard to buckle. A belt listed for your coach is more likely to fit and function the way the original did. For owners of older coaches, that kind of specific part is especially valuable.
Is Your Belt Worn?
Here is what to look for:
Retraction. A healthy belt pulls itself back into the retractor smoothly. A worn one hangs loose or needs to be fed back in by hand.
Locking. Give the belt a quick, sharp tug. It should lock. If it does not, the retractor needs attention.
Webbing. Look for frayed edges, cuts, stiffness, or significant fading.
Buckle. Press the push button. It should release cleanly without sticking, and latch with a solid click.
Webbing Colors
Webbing comes in 52 standard and specialty colors; the specialty ones, such as the edge stripes, Sunset Orange and Speed Yellow, cost a little more, as noted in the color selector. Black is the traditional choice, and edge colors are available if you would like something different, such as Silver-Edge to brighten up a darker cockpit.
Matched Pair Recommended
Since the belt is sold individually, order two to replace both cockpit seats. That way the driver and passenger sides match in color and operation.
Installing the Belt
Rotate the seat forward and lock it. Take a photo of the existing setup, then remove the old belt. Inspect the mounting points for damage or rust. Install the new belt with the webbing lying flat, tighten everything, and test the buckle and retractor. An RV shop can complete the job if you would like professional help.
