Product Description
These Custom Autosound 6x9 dual voice coil speakers are low profile speakers made to replace a single, mono speaker in a classic vehicle. Each speaker carries both stereo channels, so you get a stereo effect from one original speaker location.
Features
- Dual voice coil design carries left and right channels in one speaker
- Dual tweeters
- 140 watts
- 4 ohm impedance
- Low profile design for shallow locations
- About 70 percent more cone area than smaller dash speakers, for improved bass
Why Dual Voice Coil
Most classic cars came with one speaker, often in the dash or rear deck. Putting a standard speaker there gives you only one channel. A dual voice coil speaker has two voice coils, one for each channel, so the one location plays full stereo.
Radio Compatibility
These are 4 ohm speakers, made for modern radios such as Custom Autosound models. They will not work with original 8 or 10 ohm radios.
Ordering
The order form asks for Year, Make and Model and Factory Air, so we can match the speaker to your vehicle's location.
Adding More Speakers
For fuller sound, combine the 6x9 with a front dual voice coil dash speaker or kick panel speakers and use your radio's fader to balance the sound.
Installation
The low profile design fits shallow locations where a deep speaker would not. Check the mounting depth and any nearby wiring or components before installing, and connect each voice coil to its channel.
Speaker Tips
Old paper cones and corroded wiring hold back even a great radio. Fresh speakers and clean connections make a big difference.
Pairing With a Radio
Custom Autosound radios are made to work with 4 ohm speakers like these, and their fader lets you balance sound between speaker locations.
Low Profile Design
Many classics have shallow speaker locations under the package tray or behind the dash. The low profile design fits where deeper speakers will not.
Getting Help
If you are not sure which speaker fits your vehicle, contact us with your year, make and model before ordering.
Setting the Sound
Start with the tone controls near flat, then adjust for your cabin. Open cars usually need a little more bass than closed coupes.
Wiring Each Coil
Each voice coil has its own terminals. Connect the left channel to one coil and the right channel to the other for true stereo from a single speaker.
Power Handling
At 140 watts, these speakers handle the output of a modern radio with room to spare.
Rear Deck Locations
Many classic cars have a single rear deck speaker opening. A dual voice coil 6x9 there gives stereo sound in the back without cutting new holes.
