Product Description
Plenty of classic car owners still have a shelf full of CDs and want to play them on the road, but nobody wants a CD slot cut into an original dash. The Custom Autosound CD1 single CD/MP3 half-DIN slave unit solves that by hiding the CD player out of sight and letting your Custom Autosound radio control it.
How It Works
The CD1 is a "slave" unit, which means it has no controls you need to reach while driving. Custom Autosound describes it as a slim half-DIN CD/DVD player that is directly controlled from a compatible Custom Autosound radio. It connects with a single 8-pin DIN cable, and the radio handles track selection and playback. The player itself can go wherever there is room.
Compatibility
Custom Autosound lists the USA-630, Slidebar and SecretAudio radios as compatible. It is designed only for Custom Autosound CD controller radios, so it will not work with other brands. If you are unsure whether your radio supports CD control, contact us with the model before ordering.
Specifications
According to Custom Autosound, the CD1:
- Plays CD, CD-R, CD-RW and DVD audio discs
- Plays WMA and MP3 files
- Uses ESP electronic shock protection and an anti-shock, vibration-resistant design
- Offers repeat, program, random and intro functions
- Supports multi-angle playback and last position memory
- Comes with a 9-foot cable to connect to the head unit
- Measures about 7" wide x 1" high x 6-3/4" deep
Where to Mount It
At only about an inch tall, the CD1 is small enough to hide under a seat or in the glove box, which are the locations Custom Autosound suggests. Some owners also mount it under the dash. Choose a dry spot where you can still reach it to change discs, and where it will not be kicked or crushed. The 9-foot cable gives you some flexibility in placement.
Why Choose a Hidden CD Player
Classic car stereos from Custom Autosound are designed to look right in an original dash, and the CD1 keeps it that way. You get CD and MP3 disc playback without changing the appearance of the dash, and a single disc can hold hours of MP3 music. It is also a good companion to a radio you already own if it has a CD control input you have never used.
Installation Notes
Connection is straightforward: route the 8-pin DIN cable from the radio to the player's location, keeping it away from sharp edges, seat tracks and heater ducts. Secure the unit firmly so it does not slide around. If you are unsure about removing your radio or routing cables, a qualified auto sound shop can handle it. Vintage Car Radio sells the unit but does not offer installation.
Good to Know
Because the CD1 relies on the radio's display and controls, the features you can use depend on your head unit. Check your radio's manual for CD control functions, and keep the CD1's cable connections clean and fully seated for reliable playback.
