Product Description
Many classic lap belts, especially aviation-style and vintage-look belts, use snap hooks or sister hooks at their ends instead of a flat bolt-through fitting. Those hooks need a proper eye bolt to clip onto. Seatbelt Planet Hardware Kit #5 provides the eye bolts and supporting hardware for a two-point lap belt with sister hook or snap hook ends.
Kit Contents
Seatbelt Planet lists Kit #5 as containing:
- 2 x 7/16"-20 eye bolts with 1.75" of threads (3" overall length)
- 2 x 7/16" hex nuts
- 2 x lock washers
- 2 x 2.5" reinforcement plates
- 2 x cotter pins for sister hook applications
Snap hook applications do not require the cotter pins. They are included for sister hook installations, where a pin secures the hook closed.
Snap Hook vs. Sister Hook
A snap hook has a spring-loaded gate that clips over the eye bolt and stays closed on its own. A sister hook is made of two halves that close around the eye bolt and are then secured, which is where the cotter pin comes in. Kit #5 supports both, so check which end fittings your belt uses before installing.
One Kit Per Lap Belt
A two-point lap belt has two ends, and Kit #5 includes two eye bolts and two reinforcement plates, which covers one belt. If you are installing lap belts on both front seats, order two kits. The How Many menu lets you order up to four kits at once.
Why the Reinforcement Plates Matter
Floors in many older cars are thin sheet metal. A 2.5" reinforcement plate on the underside spreads the load from the eye bolt across a wider area, which helps prevent the bolt from pulling through the floor under heavy load. This is especially important when you are creating new anchor points in a car that was never fitted with belts.
Benefits of Eye Bolt Mounting
Eye bolts with snap hook belts make it easy to remove the belts for cleaning, upholstery work or when swapping seats. Many vintage and racing-style lap belts are designed around this mounting style, and it gives a period-correct look in classic and antique cars.
Installation Tips
Choose mounting locations on solid, rust-free metal, and check underneath before drilling so you avoid fuel lines, brake lines and wiring. Place the reinforcement plate on the underside, add the lock washer and nut, and tighten securely. Make sure the eye bolt is oriented so the hook can pivot freely without binding, and that the belt lies low across the hips when fastened. For sister hooks, install the cotter pin as intended. If you have any doubt about the strength of the floor, ask a qualified shop to check it.
Correct hardware is what lets a lap belt do its job. Kit #5 gives you a matched set of parts for hook-style belts so you can install them with confidence.
