Aurora Design BTU Smart-3.2 Bluetooth/BLE/USB/AAC Adapter for FMR-3.2 Radios

The BTU Smart-3.2 is the full-featured Bluetooth and USB companion to Aurora Design's FMR-3.2 receiver, replacing the earlier BTU-3.2. It installs inside your converted original radio and is controlled entirely through the factory knobs, so there are no dangling cords, tiny buttons or touch screens in your classic dash.

FMR Connect™ App Control

The "Smart" in the name means support for Aurora Design's FMR Connect™ mobile app for iOS™ and Android™. From your phone you can give the radio a unique name, adjust the equalizer in real time, set balance and fader and control the FMR-3.2's advanced functions. On DAB/DAB+ equipped radios you can run scans, pick stations from a list and send the updated list to the radio. The BTU Smart-3.2 also supports the FMR Configurator™ desktop app for macOS™, Windows™ and Linux™.

Because Aurora Design licenses the AAC codec, AAC music from your phone plays without being converted to lower-quality SBC.

USB Playback and Charging

The USB 2.0 port plays AAC/M4A, MP3 and Ogg Vorbis files up to 48kHz and 320kb/s, plus lossless FLAC up to 1000kb/s, and you can mix file types on one drive. It handles up to 1,800 folders and 65,534 files, and the USB-A connector can be extended with standard cables. A 16GB USB flash drive is included. Charging supports SDP, CDP and DCP modes at up to 2.1A, along with Apple® 1A/2A and BlackBerry® modes, and continues with the radio off while the ignition is on. A tightly coupled, high-efficiency power supply is designed not to interfere with AM reception.

Hands-Free Calling and Voice Features

Calls come through the radio speakers, with call waiting and conference calling supported. If you switch the radio off mid-call, the call hands back to your phone and returns to the radio when you turn it on again. Voice Command lets you speak to compatible phones, and Voice Assist has the radio speak to you in English to guide setup and operation. Use the internal microphone or the included clip-on external microphone with a 3M (9.8') cable for the clearest voice quality.

Seamless Operation

Want to start music or a call while listening to the radio? Twist the volume control. Pairing, play/pause, next/previous, call accept/reject and mute all work through the original controls, and the included RGB status LED shows the current mode. When you turn the radio back on, it resumes the radio, USB track or Bluetooth stream where you left off. An optional illuminated pushbutton is available. The module measures only 1.44" x 1.5" x 0.44".
