Product Description
Aurora Design FMR-MC1 Motor Controller for Signal-Seeking Radios
Signal-seeking radios like the Delco® Wonderbar®, Ford Town & Country and Chrysler Electro-Touch were high-end options in their day, but their seek mechanisms rely on limit switches, relays and contacts that wear out after decades of use. The Aurora Design FMR-MC1 Motor Controller is designed for radios converted with the FMR-3.2 AM/FM receiver. It removes those original limit switches and relays, giving the seek mechanism modern electronic control.
What the FMR-MC1 Does
- Works with the FMR-3.2 in signal-seeking radios to eliminate the original limit switches, relays and related parts
- Can be paired with an aftermarket DC motor and bracket to replace the AC seek motor used in some Bendix® radios
Removing those wear items takes away common failure points in a vintage signal seeker. For Bendix® radios with an AC seek motor, the FMR-MC1 also provides a path to a DC motor setup when used with an aftermarket motor and bracket.
Paired With FMR-3.2 Seek Performance
The FMR-3.2 is fully compatible with signal-seeking radios. It supports selectable sensitivity control and Delco® electric pushbutton tuning, and its microprocessor finds stations reliably every time. Press Seek once to go to the next station, or press it twice to scan with an 8-second pause on each. Aurora Design rates the seek tuner at a minimum of 30ms per channel, with a full-dial traverse of 5.0 seconds in North America, 6.0 seconds in Europe/Asia and 4.2 seconds in Japan.
Related Options
Some late-1950s Delco® E- and F-Series Wonderbar® radios use a high-voltage seek relay. For those radios, Aurora Design offers the FMR-HV1 High Voltage Relay Driver. Ask our team whether your radio is better suited to the FMR-HV1, which keeps and drives the original relay, or the FMR-MC1, which eliminates the original limit switches and relays.
Aurora Design Engineering
Aurora Design designs its automotive products to OEM and SAE specifications with OEM-grade components. Production takes place in a 33,000 sq. ft. ISO 9001:2000 facility with 2D and 3D X-ray inspection and full component-level traceability. The FMR-3.2 platform the FMR-MC1 works with is protected against reverse battery, load dump and double-battery jump starts.
Who Should Consider the FMR-MC1
The FMR-MC1 makes sense if you're restoring a signal-seeking radio with an FMR-3.2 conversion and want to retire tired limit switches and relays. It's also for anyone with a Bendix® radio whose AC seek motor is being replaced with a DC motor. It isn't needed for manually tuned radios, which use the FMR-3.2's twist-to-scan feature instead.
Requirements
The FMR-MC1 is an accessory for the Aurora Design FMR-3.2 receiver. Bendix® AC-motor conversions also need an aftermarket DC motor and bracket, which aren't included. Six-volt and positive-ground cars need the HPC-1 converter to power the FMR-3.2.
