The rear seat of a full-size Caprice is about as roomy as American cars ever got, and it was built for adults to ride in comfort. This kit gives the two rear outboard positions in a 1967-1973 Caprice new fixed lap belts with all-metal push button latches.
Fit Details
Seatbelt Planet lists the kit for 1967 through 1973 Caprice models, rear left and rear right. A rear center belt is not part of the set.
Color Choices
There are fifty-two strap shades available, thirteen of which are premium. Choose the same shade as your front belts for a consistent cabin.
Time for New Belts?
Rear belts in these big Chevrolets are often hidden under the seat, faded from sun through the rear glass, or missing entirely. A new pair makes the back seat ready for passengers.
Caring for Your Belts
Keep the belts tucked above the cushion between uses. Clean them gently with a moist cloth if they get dirty.
About the Chevrolet Caprice
The Caprice became Chevrolet's flagship in 1966 and stayed at the top of the line through the seventies. Sedans, coupes, convertibles and Estate wagons all wore the name at various points.
Before You Install
Remove the rear seat cushion and locate the outboard anchors near each door. Clean the threads and inspect the pan for rust.
Good to Know
Bolts are included with the kit.
Rear passengers in a Caprice sit on a deep, soft cushion, so a snug lap belt helps keep them in place. Adjust each strap after buckling so it fits low across the hips.
Families with young children often need rear lap belts to secure booster or child seats in classic cars. These belts provide the firm, positive latch needed for that.
Caprice coupes have a slightly different rear seat shape than sedans, but the anchors are in similar positions. Check your car before ordering.
The all-metal push button latch has a durable feel and matches the style of the front belts.
Installation is straightforward: remove the cushion, bolt each belt to its anchor, route the straps through the seat gap and reinstall the cushion.
If you are restoring the interior, install the belts after new carpet but before the seat goes back in.
Black, blue and green were common Caprice interior colors, but any shade can be used to match custom upholstery.
Rear seat belts were standard equipment by the late sixties, so most Caprices have factory anchors in place. If someone removed the belts years ago, the threaded holes may be filled with dirt or undercoating; clear them carefully with a thread chaser.
Cleaning the anchors first makes the job go faster and helps the bolts seat fully against the floor.
