    The Ford Fairlane was considered a mid sized car that bridged the gap between the bigger cars and some of Ford's smaller offerings. It was available in two door and four door with many different engine packages. It really got going in the family market until the drag car guys got a hold of it and realized that it enough room for some big engines. The Ford engineering crew decided to put a big block in and they called it the Thunderbolt. There were only one hundred or so built and they were all sold to drag racers around the country. The Thunderbolt was Ford's answer to the Mopars that were tearing up the country and boy did they step to the plate and hit it out. It set records and won so many races people start to lose count. Then in the mid-sixties the Fairlane got bigger but so did the engines and the Fairlane became a true muscle car. Now no matter how fast your car is sometimes you just want to settle down and cruise.
