Classic Corvette Consoles & Cup Holders

The Chevrolet Corvette is an obvious American icon that is still building its legacy today, and having a nickname simply a shortened version of it’s name, “Vette.” The full name “corvette” is actually derived from a small, easily maneuverable warship, and can be traced back further to a french word for small boat, and comes from the root Latin term for “basket.” This may not exactly match up with what we have today as the Chevy Corvette, but the car has definitely made the name its own.

It has been known for a certain combination of style and speed that is often unmatched by competitors. These beautiful two-seaters are head turners from for any generation and of any of their models. These cars have always pushed boundaries for showmanship and performance, but as they are generally small on the inside, some of the earlier models can be lacking in some of modern day cars’ obvious standard features, and even newer models could benefit from added storage or cup holders.

After being featured as a concept at the 1953 New York auto show, positive response pushed Chevy to put the Corvette into production. These first generation Corvettes from the years of 1953 to 1962 brought two of the most collectable models available. In its first model year, 300 hand made versions of the Corvette were constructed, all convertibles and all painted polo white. However, overzealous anticipation of popularity

brought overproduction for the Corvette’s second year model in 1944. Because of this, production of the 1955 model was kept to only 700, making the 1955 one of the most rare and collectable models of all time.

In the second generation of Corvettes from years 1963 to 1967, a legend was born. The initial release was labeled the Corvette “Sting-Ray,” a name which labels the most ground-breaking and world-class performance quality models to this day. It bore the unique tapered rear window style that has remained a signature of modern Corvettes. In response to the Ford Shelby Cobra, Grand Sport version was created, but only five were made, making them almost unheard of.

Possibly the most well known and well loved body style of the Corvette came with the third generation from the years 1968 to 1982. The long 14 year production of this generation is evident of the popularity. It introduced the first use of T-tops style roofing, hidden headlights and the special edition monickers of LT-1, ZR-1, Z07 and Collectors Edition. A complete restyling then occured for the fourth generation in model years 1984 through 1996. For the fifth generation, a strong modernization can be seen in a much more rounded appearance. The sixth generation, or “C6,” brough a major change in body shape, exposed headlights and a bigger interior space, though it can still feel cramped.
